A few weeks ago I went to West Palm Beach for the day with a couple of friends. We had gone to see The Downton Abbey Exhibit. The Exhibit is over now, but I wish I had gone sooner. If you are a Downton fan, it is a must see. I believe it is touring the U.S., so if interested, check to see if in a city near you anytime soon. After the exhibit we went to City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill for lunch. We loved it. To quote from their website:
“Opened in 1999, City Cellar is one of the city’s landmark eateries.
Step inside the large dining room featuring a floor to ceiling glass enclosed wine cellar. City Cellar possesses a huge award-winning wine collection that can be sampled by the bottle, glass or flight. The varied menu has delicious hearth baked pizza, dry aged steaks, fresh pasta and seafood. A small plates menu is offered featuring a daily flatbread, lobster mac ‘n cheese and other daily specials. A rotating menu of hard to find artisanal cheeses is available as well. Desserts are all enticing, all house made and all very tasty.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself. It is located within “City Place”. City Place is in the center of downtown WPB and must go to if in the area. Shopping and restaurants galore.
Once we left City Cellar we did a little shopping and decided it was time to go to The Breakers, Palm Beach Hotel. One word, breathtaking!! Built in 1896 overlooking the Atlantic Ocean by American industrialist, Henry Flagler. Anyone raised in South Florida should know this name. It is thanks to him (and other industrialist) that we can call Florida home today. 🙂
This link takes you to thistory of the hotel:
These photos do not do this hotel justice! After walking in to the lobby in amazement, we decided to sit down for a cocktail (it was happy hour by this point, lol) at the lobby bar HMF (named after, you guessed it Henry M Flagler). I ordered the Frescavescent. Fresh squeezed lemon, lime, and grapefruit juices with a shot of Titos Vodka. Pure refreshment! My friends ordered the HMF Colada (rum, fresh juices, and coconut) and the Chanel #6 (Vodka, Chambord, Fresh pineapple juice, and champagne). Along with our drinks ($17 each if you were wondering, keep in mind this is a 5+++ star hotel/resort) we were served warm cashews that had a coating that was out of this world. It was sweet with a little bit of kick.
Once we’d savored our drinks and cashews we walked around and explored the property. There were a couple of weddings happening, so that was nice. All I have to say about this luxurious hotel, is I would love to stay there one day! If you are ever in West Palm Beach or nearby, it is worth it to visit this landmark hotel!!
Many may think that living in SW Florida means we are limited on where we can go being so far south. This is true sometimes and that is why I am grateful for air travel, lol. However, within driving distance there are some very awesome and charming places to visit too. One being WPB. I began my day in Naples. After a 2 hour drive I was in Boca Raton (where my friends live). From Boca it is only 20-30 minutes to West Palm Beach. After West Palm I didn’t go back to Naples (although I could have) I stayed in Boca. I wanted to be able to have lunch at Houston’s the next day. I LOVE Houston’s.
In closing want to wish everyone a Happy Easter. Until next time.
